Dylan, Riley and Payton: A Sibling Trio
Another doll trio has just come off the doll studio. Not entirely true, of course, as they have been in the making for a long, long time. Let me show you this rambunctious trio of dolls.
Initially I thought we were going to dress them in summer clothes…then it turned to autumn and now they are going home in the depths of winter. That’s how long these three have been with me. Am I complaining, never!
Since it is close to Christmas, I decided to dress the girls in the sort of outfits my daughters used to wear at this time of the year. Knitted dresses with some fancy details. In the case of Riley (pictured above) she is wearing a cashmere cable-knit dress with mini pearl beads and glass beads.
Winter can be harsh in certain areas, so I gave her a nice and thick doubled collar so she can keep her cheeks warm.
She needed a hair accessory to complement such a pretty dress, so we went for a matchin hair bow. Doesn’t she look adorable?
Riley is the first doll of the three I finished, so her photos come first 😊.
Payton was the second doll I dressed and we went with lots more colour. She chose the cherry fair isle knit and I matched the little floral corduroy skirt to it. I think the whole thing looks pretty cute.
Then we went for cashmere tights in a nice soft pink, brown shoes with golden beads and a fancy velvety headband. The kind I used to wear when I was little and has somehow made quite the come back, especially for the holidays.
Payton is the youngest sister so I tried to dress her a bit more playful. I hope her Grandma agrees with our choices.
Then it was the turn for this heart-breaker of a boy. I’ve mentioned before that I “struggle” making boys because they always come out so sweet and maybe not as boyish as they real counterparts. Well, I’ve gotten over it because I am head-over-heels over this precious fella.
I dressed him in a cozy but understated cabled jumper, made with repurposed lambswool. A pair of nice khaki jeans (reminiscent of the Carhartt overalls my daughters used to wear too), cozy blue boots, a chunky ribbed beanie and a nice red scarf for good measure.
I do love the simplicity of boy clothes sometimes, and how you can play with the colours without overtly matching everything, as the girls request so very often.
When I look at each doll individually, my heart explodes and thinks “that’s it, you’re my favourite!”…but then I play with the other siblings and I change my mind. I find each one so special, so darling and so full of doll magic. I really don’t know what to do with myself and the honest truth is I am very thankful I actually don’t have to pick a favourite, and I don’t need to separate them because they are going to the same home.
And the funny thing is, ten years ago I made their Mom and Uncle as dolls too. Compared to them they are Liliputhians, as these dolls are so small. But they all belong to the same family and I am forever thankful of the trust and support their Grandmother has bestowed on me over these many years.
In keeping with their tradition, I gave these three Suri Alpaca locks for doll hair too.
Now they can go home and join the festivities and be welcomed by so many of their Fig&Me cousins, among them many other doll favourites of mine 😊. Hopefully they will behave and not cause too much ruckus.
Thanks to their loving Grandmother, who through thick and thin has been supporting the work of these two hands for more than a decade. It has always been such a privilege to make dolls for you, knowing how deep your doll love is.
I always feel so comforted in sending my dolls away when I know their new homes will take such good care of them. After all, they are my wool children ❤️.
Thanks to all for coming to read about them and help me in wishing them a great journey home.
