Hi.

Welcome to my dollmaking journal. I write doll stories, share tips on this creative journey and so much more. Hope you enjoy your visit!.

Rebecca, in her full wardrobe

Rebecca, in her full wardrobe

Though this little one already left her maker’s studio and is well on her way to her new home, I wanted to come and show you the many clothes we concocted together.

First up is this beautiful, classic style jumper dress, with long sleeves, small yoke, gathered skirt and elasticized cuffs for comfy fit. Rebecca cleverly chose a piece of knitted lambswool for the circular collar, and we repurposed the pretty teal buttons from the cardigan we used for her. It all seemed to match perfectly, which almost never happens around here.

The chosen print is made by the famous floral addicts at Liberty of London. We whole-heartedly agree with their penchant for tiny flowers and madness of colour. Though the print we chose was meant as her winter fancy dress, it will also blend in naturally as a Spring or Summer outfit. Thanks to the flowers, always making us look good!

We made a pair of little shoes, step-by-step tutorial published via the Patreon Dressmaking series back in April. We named them ‘Zapaticos’ for the tutorial and this time we used repurposed knit and organic jersey for the lining, with a thicker felted lambswool for the sole and elastic ties. They are so cozy and keep her feet nice and warm while matching her dress.

I guess one of the reasons Rebecca chose the lambswool for the collar is that it keeps her neck and cheeks nice and warm. Clever girl!

As you can see, we also knitted a pretty beret for her. We decided to decorate the beret with some simple wool felt beads (I buy mine from this master crafter) to imitate winter berries and Rebecca chose the colours by matching them to her dress. Such a devoted designer! It was such a pleasure to see her hard at work.

Now, if you too are beret-inclined, the pattern for this sassy topper will be published soon.

I don’t want to say ‘when’ because I seem to be running out of steam over here, trying to edit and schedule all the videos coming to Patreon, in anticipation of my yearly 3-week winter break. But rest assured the pattern will soon be ready for your knitting needles and then you too can knit a pretty topper for your willing dolls.

The pattern is very simple and it comes in several sizes, so maybe you can have a whole troop of dolls wearing different versions of this pretty beret.

Now, her Spring/Fall outfit is also a favourite. A heartwarming blouse in plaid in a creamy grey and light taupe, with long sleeves and ruffles. What’s not to love?

Part of our doll signature is using ribbing on the doll’s clothing, where otherwise you would find very traditional collars or ways to finish the neckline. I believe this adds a contemporary look to the dolls, though the clothes are created with very timeless designs.

A pretty corduroy skirt, fabric which I hand-dyed with avocado, to give it that gentle colour. A wooden decorative button with etched birds on the hem and a nice thick waist band.

Her socks, though light mint in colour made using cotton pointelle, go perfectly well with the suave colours of this ensemble. She can wear the shoes or her very tall pink boots if she wishes.

She is truly a vision and I found myself completely enraptured with this doll in my studio. I just kept giving her hugs and holding her little face on my hands.

But that was not all, of course. She wanted another hat, something furry she said. I nearly fainted. After my recent explosive adventure creating a coat for Henrietta Swan, I did scream a little…inside me.

Cue the cute number we came up with:

With a light snow lingering outside, we ventured forth. She grabbed her upcycled cardigan and her furry hat. She asked me to call her: Your Furry Highness! This little doll is very funny!

I adore the cardigan. It is incredibly soft and warm, but not in the way cashmere is. It feels more wholesome, more traditional in a way. The lovely fair isle colourwork had me entranced and then to top it off it had hand-embroidered details. So glad Rebecca chose this for her wardrobe, I have been saving it since forever.

I won’t go into details of what it meant to sew that hat, but I applaude all humans who decide to work with fake fur of this magnitude pile. I was close to tears but looking at her eager gaze, excitedly waiting to wear the furry number, I just had to keep on going.

As they wisely say: good things come to those who wait.

As you can see, she has a set of very tall boots made in cashmere/wool. These are for when she wants to go outside wearing her dress or skirt.

We do not like it when dolls have exposed skin in the harsh winter, it makes us feel like very bad mothers. But, we know the dolls are a bit more adventurous so we just try to encourage a few better chosen clothing items.

Rebecca has one more set of clothes which we did not photograph, as is our custom. To allow our customers to have a surprise and something only they get to see. Don’t feel too distraught, it is a set of simple striped pyjamas.

Well, now you’ve seen what I have been up to and how much I adore working on my custom dolls. For now the doll studio is somewhat closed, but I will open custom spots in January, so if you too want a doll made from my hands, you and I can work together.

Keep an eye on the blog then or subscribe to my newsletter so you don’t miss the announcement of the custom spots being open.

Thank you for coming to check on Rebecca and join me in wishing her safe travels to her new home!

This is the last doll of 2021. What an adventure this year has been and so happy to have closed it with her.
