Hi.

Welcome to my dollmaking journal. I write doll stories, share tips on this creative journey and so much more. Hope you enjoy your visit!.

Tessa, a kismet doll

Kismet dolls are offered to people who do not own a Fig&Me doll just yet, and the process is quite simple. If you qualify under this category, you leave a comment in this post (with your email address please), and after the time is up, I select a person that is then offered to take her home. I send an email with all the particulars and you got your doll!. I have promised to have a monthly kismet doll, and Tessa is the one for August...phew! I almost didnt make it!

Tessa is the very last doll of the Cottage Chic group of dolls that I have been making during this month. She is therefore, the older sister of the bunch, and pretty much like the fame of this position in the family, she is taciturn, a little bossy, but very helpful.

She spent a beautiful morning, preparing tea for my girls, readying up the shortbread, the napkins, brewing the cranberry tea. While we left the girls to enjoy their morning snack, we wandered away. She told me that this was her favourite poem, and I transcribe it here since it's so beautiful:

BED IN SUMMER by Robert Louis Stevenson

In winter I get up at night
and dress by yellow candlelight.
In summer, quite the other way,
I have to go to bed by day.
I have to go to bed and see
The birds still hopping on the tree,
Or hear the grown-up people's feet
Still going past me in the street.
And does it not seem hard to you,
When all the sky is clear and blue,
And I should like so much to play,
To have to go to bed by day?

We learned it, and I tell it to my girls during the summer nights, when they fuss and complain about going to bed, since it's still so bright outside. It has brought some chuckles around here, and now both girls know some parts of it. Tessa, like I mentioned, is quite helpful like that, and perhaps you have a little one who is also complaining to go to bed. Fear not, the season is changing, and sooner than later, we will all be having supper with much darkened skies.

Tessa is an all natural doll, made by me, and she stands 16.5 inches tall. She is wearing a cotton and linen dress, with ties and velcro on back. A pair of cotton underpants, and wool maryjanes with wooden buttons. She has a wool short-sleeved cardi, with three wooden buttons and a cotton bonnet, with a cute bow applique on the back. A handmade button with a cute bird graces the applique.

A person was selected to be able to take sweet Tessa home: Miaoyi

I'll be contacting her shortly and hopefully Tessa will start a big adventure of her very own pretty soon. Thank you so much to everyone that expressed their interest in bringing her to their home. I will have two dolls ready next Thursday, and perhaps one of them will be the right one for you. Have a good night everyone.
