Hi.

Welcome to my dollmaking journal. I write doll stories, share tips on this creative journey and so much more. Hope you enjoy your visit!.

Hansel and Gretel, Part 5: Assembling the Dolls

Hansel and Gretel, Part 5: Assembling the Dolls

Chapter 5 of our ongoing Dollmaking Series making a set of natural dolls, inspired by the story of Hansel and Gretel. In this chapter we finally assemble the dolls, putting them together with strong hand-sewing stitches.

We start by first sewing the feet into their position, then we make a strong stitch at the top of the leg so the dolls can sit with more ease, then we work on the arms and attach them to the body.

Then we finish by sewing the neck line and shoulders of both dolls.

In the next week’s video I will show you how to make doll hair for Hansel and Gretel using mohair yarn. If you want to try different hair options for your dolls, please feel free to visit this overview on How To Make Doll Hair.

I published this post a long time ago but I constantly revise it and make sure all the links work for you.

While I want to keep my dolls very suitable for my niece, you might be creating them for yourself so you might want to try different hair options.

In the tutorial video I mention another one that I published a little while ago regarding hand sewing.

In that video I show you some of the most widely used hand-stitches I use in my dollmaking. I use two of those stitches to assemble these dolls, so if you want to take a refresher or check them out you can watch the video here.

I also recently optimized the channel’s landing page so you can have an easier time finding the many videos I have published over the last few years.

While I opened my YouTube channel in 2015 and wanted then so badly to create content for it, I just wasn’t in the right place in my life to do it.

So it is now finally during 2020, that I have more wits about me, know how to use the software it entails, can dedicate some proper weekly time to create higher quality video content and be in a place, both creatively and in life, where I can produce content for both platforms: Patreon and YouTube.

Of course, without sacrificing time spent on my own doll making, writing or chatting about with my doll making friends.

I hope you are excited for what’s to come in 2021, but first we have to put hair on those silly dolls.

See you next week with a new chapter.
