As promised, this is the link to the last custom spot offered this year, for a 21" Figlette. The auction starts at Noon today, and will run until tomorrow night. I hope that this will allow some of you to participate, and ultimately I am very excited to see who I will be working with in creating a very special Figlette.
Runs from Friday July 20 at 12:00 in the afternoon, to
Saturday July 21 at 10:00 at night (EST).
So far, all the names that have been drawn for the custom spots are absolutely delighted at the opportunity, and so am I. Creating custom dolls is a true pleasure for me, as I get a glimpse of the home this doll will be going to before I even start. That doesn't happen with my other dolls, and I would be lying if I said there is no trepidation when I sell them. I also get to hear about very special people, some little some not so little, and it creates a bond between me and the doll that is very strong. I usually hear constantly from all the recipients of custom dolls years after they receive them, as they have become true members of their family. And that is one of the many reasons I keep offering custom dolls.
Creating a custom doll for me is not necessarily about matching certain materials to specific requests, like the right shade of purple or the perfectly matched slant of the eye. It is about creating, from deep within me, something that resonates not just with me and who I am, but with you. It is about bringing forth little personalities, based on your ideas and stories, on your life path, on your children and their phase in life. It has less to do with hair options, than with knowing each other. It has very little to do with replicating a previous doll, and a lot to do with listening to you and gathering your thoughts and ideas, and making something that is ultimately unique and one of a kind. A doll that has been made just for you.
The mass production of dolls, especially for children, is a sad state of affairs. I do feel that children connect when something has been made expressly for them. Not necessarily to their requests of green eyes and spiky hair, but to who they are. Dolls made by their mothers are the best example of something that perhaps lacks quality or skill, but that has been made from the deepest well of love there is, and I could never match that, or want to. I give people the chance of creating a doll, for their offspring or themselves, that has some of that vivacious quality, some of that energy, a bit of that idea behind it.
I am very excited, full of anticipation and nervousness, waiting to finish my custom order file, so that we can start talking and dreaming these new dolls that will be coming out of my hands and into your lives. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of your life, for a little bit, and for loving my dolls *almost* as much as I do.
Have a wonderful weekend!
