A Delightful Doll Outfit for the Summer Lover

A Delightful Doll Outfit for the Summer Lover

Join the merry-making by sewing an entire cottagecore-inspired outfit for your Waldorf or natural fiber art doll. The entire thing is available to you via three video tutorials with PDFs of the pattern pieces so you can get started right away. Click on the button below and head straight to the store.

As you can see, I used a plethora of fabrics: linen and cotton, even repurposed cashmere for those glorious pink baubles on the cape. I tried Poet’s favourite colours at the time: pinks, mint, pastels, a bit of mustard yellow and white dots.

It’s important to put all the fabrics together first, to see how they look next to each other and is half the fun to design this outfit because it contains so many bits of fabric.

If you wish you can also add laces, like I did, to the ends of each tier, including the pretty apron. I think laces add such a beautiful touch to doll clothing and never to be missed if you get the chance to add them properly.

They definitely compliment the design of this doll dress.

And how can we miss that ginormous sun bonnet. We wanted something old school but also cute, so Poet chose the height of the brim to epic proportions and we used fusible interfacing so it stays tall and proud.

Adding a ruffle was a must as was using popcorn trim for the ties.

There are many design details, such as this centre back dart on the bonnet, that will help you learn to sew things to better fit your dolls. For example, the cape is all in one piece, with the help of clever shoulder darts as well.

And it was designed with a wider neckline so you can pop the Peter Pan collar of the dress over it, and therefore show off your handiwork without obscuring design details.

I hope you give it a go and I am excited to see your colour and fabric combinations. Designing and sewing this outfit was lots of fun. It was created as a dressmaking series for my Patreon channel back in early 2024 and is now available as a 3-pdf bundle via my Etsy store.

Each part of the outfit is made via a different video tutorial in English, so you can pause and watch as many times as you need to.

The pattern is designed to fit my doll Poet, which is 22” tall with a 7” chest circumference and 10.5” head circumference. But you can adjust the pattern length and ease to fit your own doll. As you can see, Poet likes to wear very loose-fitting clothing.

Except for the bonnet. She likes that one tight 🤗.

I hope you give it a go and if you do, please show me! I would love to see your fabric combos and your doll wearing a Fig & Me “fit”.
