Ewelina, Agustina and Luvenia | Three Fiber Art Dolls Ready to Play

Ewelina, Agustina and Luvenia | Three Fiber Art Dolls Ready to Play

This has been an incredible summer with a ‘bumper crop’ of moths. A bit eery to see them floating en masse on the lake, but nature is unpredictable and incredibly wise. We follow its way.

Luvenia, (girl above) being the youngest of these three wool moth fairies, likes to beat her sisters early in the morning. “Start the day on the right foot”, she says. And by this she means: complete and dedicated effort to show the other two that just because she’s the youngest, that doesn’t translate to her being the slowest, dimmest or laziest of the three.

She has a drive to do good and show her expertise when caring for baby moths, that I haven’t seen in a while. Like a very small child playing with blocks, absolute concentration and disposition to the task at hand. Zero multi-tasking.

Agustina (girl pictured above) on the other hand, seems to believe she has already done enough with the mere act of waking up. She is in love with the world and wants to experience it fully, chores be damned.

On a day to day basis, she does the bare minimum as to not be reprimanded by the Fairy Godmother watching over them, and tells stories to the baby moths at twice the speed just to get over it. In hindsight, this prompts a lot of questions to repeat herself, which ought to give her the concept of “slow and steady wins the race”, but as you well know, young souls thrive in conflict and have short term memory.

Her greatest wish is to go and find the mossiest branch, one where there’s a bit of sunshine and she can warm up for a bit, make a nook and read, away from it all. Then she tries to go and find all the plants and animals that her book talks about.

A fairy’s education is an important task.

Their older sister Ewelina (girl pictured above), just dies of embarrassment every now and then. Moaning the fact she was born first and due to this unprecedented and unfair deal of hand, she is now stuck with the two under her tow.

All in all, she tries to put up a bright face to adversity, trying to keep busy herself so she gets lost in her duties. She has developed a slight flinch every time Fairy Godmother asks her to report to the central knoll in the woods. She’s always tasked with recommendations regarding her sisters, ways to improve familial bonds and hints of motivation.

I keep telling Ewelina that she shouldn’t get too bothered by it, but I guess is part of the “fun” of being an older sister. As she get older she will understand that having siblings is a blessing, even if when growing up you feel like they are a ball and chain.

Once they are done with their daily duties, which involve teaching the baby moths all there is to know about food, flying and keeping away from candles, they go back to their beautiful home atop an ancient spruce.

Here they chat about their day, make plans to venture into new areas of the forest, and sit by the tallest branch to watch the sunset setting over the lake.

It’s nice to start and close your day watching the sun.

These three little wool moth fairies are looking for a home today. They are all made with natural materials: canadian wool, cotton jersey, weighted in their tummies with doll making glass beads and have mohair wefts for hair.

They are made with my Mini Fig pattern, which gives them 9” in height. Their faces are completely sculpted in wool and have the new addition of exquisite and minute eyelashes, something I normally add to my dolls via one long stitch. Well, these fairies are very fancy or something, because they wanted more ‘oomph’ than my simple embroidered stitch. I agreed.

Ewelina and Luvenia have freckles, because they spend more time under the sun tending to their flock of baby moths. Since Agustina hides most of the day on a tree branch, she still hasn’t developed this peculiarity.

All three dolls wear a simple dress with an attached apron. There are three different fabrics used to give their dresses more texture, but keeping to the colour scheme of the moths they are inspired by. The necklines are adorned with Czech glass beads. They also wear long bloomers.

Their shoes have long ties and are made with cashmere and italian alpaca/mohair for the soles and fully lined.

I have used a multitude of new and repurposed fabrics on their clothes.

Being fairies, of course they have wings. These are made of fabric and are attached to a velveteen vest that ties, crossed, at the front.

I will show you the back of their wings tomorrow on Instagram ☺️ because they are just so darn cute!
