Magnolia and Sojourn, Two Fiber Art Dolls Ready To Play
So happy to finally introduce you to these little sisters, who have been playing in my studio for quite a while. They are both looking for a home so keep reading to find out more about them.
After weeks of rain and dreaming of prancing through freshly sprouted meadows full of blooming wildflowers, the girls got their wish. Seeing their dollmaking attendant did not provide galoshes or even protective overalls, they had to go outside in their flounced petticoats and long linen dresses.
Sojourn, the youngest, always a little shy to ask names of plants or names of birds, permanently trails behind her older sister Magnolia. She is not left alone at any moment, as Magnolia is very caring and loves to share her knowledge with her little sister.
Pointing out different plants and the birds she knows off the top of her head, Magnolia sounds very mature when we go out for little jaunts in the neighbourhood. Sojourn observes quietly, patiently, absorbing all the beauty and names so she can properly say hi next time.
“Good evening dear robin, Good Morning dear fennel”, etc.
Magnolia is much too pleased at this behaviour from her little sister, as they seem to have the same love for nature and especially for birds. Spiders do make them a little uneasy but they love to observe master spiderwebs dangling gently among the raspberry hedges or hawthorn branches. Even better in the early morning hours when they are dressed in dew that glistens like pearls.
They admire roses, hyacinths and sweet peas alike. They are naturally inclined to all things pink, as they consider it their talisman.
One day Sojourn asked me if birds would like to make a nest on their head, giving herself wholeheartedly to this idea. I replied they probably would, although it would make for a very unsteady bed for their young ones. Sojourn pondered quietly about this for a while and sighed in acknowledgment of her pipe dream. Still, it does the soul wonders to dream!
Magnolia with her self-assured tone calms Sojourn’s anxieties about unsuitable nest real estate, and lets her know of a favourite game: let’s see how many nests we spy on our walk!
This is a little bit like cheating I feel, since they’ve already memorized locations and all they have to do know is go looking for them. Still, the enterprising young bird surprises them every now and then and they both look back at me with eyes as big as saucers. The joys of finding nature hard at work seems to be present both in child and adult alike.
After a beautiful sunset, having “discovered” ten nests, and asking for a portable ladder for Christmas, we headed home. One thought always on their mind: what’s for dessert?
I have never met a pair of dolls more devoted to sugary confections, whipped cream and fruit than these two! It’s a good thing they have great walking habits or I am fearful for their waists once they are much older.
Once home we got busy mixing juices, sugar and butter. We sat down by the outdoor table, listening to the garden birds and watching the world plunge into darkness. Such a happy feeling to see the sun go down. Now it’s time for bed.
Magnolia and her litter sister Sojourn are looking for a home. You can try to adopt them both or only the one that calls your heart. Let me tell you more about their specifics and then there will be a form at the bottom of the page to enter your name for the doll of your choosing.
Magnolia
Magnolia is a 15” natural fiber art doll made in my Petite Fig style. She is firmly stuffed and sculpted with Canadian wool and her skin is 100% cotton. Her brown eyes are embroidered and her freckles hand-painted. Her head rotates and she can comfortably sit and stand propped.
Magnolia’s hair is made of hand-dyed curly wool locks, machine sewn into wefts and hand-sewn to a dollmaking mohair yarn cap. Her hair can only be finger-styled but it is extremely bouncy and too much fun to play with.
Magnolia wears a lovely linen and cotton dress, with two skirts and trimmed in cotton lace, 3/4 length flouncy sleeves with elastic at the elbows. The attached puffy collar is made of velvet and the bodice has several pin tucks and adorned with fabric flowers.
She also wears a long petticoat and jersey cotton picot underpants as well as melton wool shoes with satin ties.
Magnolia wears a sweet headband in velvet ribbon and fabric flowers, to keep her curly locks off her face.
She is a natural fiber art doll suitable for older children 12+ or adult doll collectors.
Sojourn
Sojourn is a 14” natural fiber art doll made in my Petite Fig style. She is firmly stuffed and sculpted with Canadian wool and her skin is 100% cotton. Her blue eyes are embroidered and her freckles hand-painted. Her head rotates and she can comfortably sit and stand propped.
Sojourn’s hair is made of hand-dyed curly wool locks, machine sewn into wefts and hand-sewn to a dollmaking mohair yarn cap. Her hair can only be finger-styled but it is extremely bouncy and too much fun to play with. She prefers to have it in pig-tails otherwise is looks exponentially adorable and that makes her blush.
Sojourn wears a dress in cotton and linen with two partial skirts, trimmed with cotton lace. Puffed sleeves are 3/4 length and have elastic at the elbows. The bodice has 3 pin tucks and entre-deux as well as a knit angora fabric flower sewn-in. The puffy white collar is made of velvet and the dress opens fully at back and closes with sewn-in snaps.
She also has a long cotton petticoat trimmed in the same lace as her dress, cotton picot jersey underpants and melton wool shoes with satin ties.
Sojourn has two little hair ties made with fabric blossoms and crochet wool. She sometimes doesn’t like to wear them but most often she will.
She is a natural fiber art doll suitable for older children 12+ or adult doll collectors.
Available for Adoption
Magnolia and Sojourn are looking for a loving home that can support their love for 3 things: flowers, birds and desserts, in no particular order. They are available for adoption “comment-style”, meaning you enter your details in the form below and at the end of the allotted time we choose names at random to purchase the dolls.
I will then send you an email confirming your adoption and an invoice via Paypal (or banking details if in Europe). Payment is due then. The dolls travel with tracking number and insurance from Portugal.
This form will stay open until Sunday April 27th at 5 PM EDT (10 PM Lisbon). At that point I will close the form, delete it and select homes for the girls ❤️.
We thank you for coming to check out the girls and if you are entering to bring one home, double the thanks for your intention to support the noble tradition of handmade dolls and the work of my hands.
See you on Sunday!
