Ainur and Magnus, a set of natural fiber art dolls ready to play

Ainur and Magnus, a set of natural fiber art dolls ready to play

Once the flasks of hot tea were made (foolishly I thought that’s what they wanted), a couple egg salad sandwiches (with lots of cucumber as Ainur likes them like that) wrapped in brown parchment paper, a few sliced oranges, buttered biscuits and two hot potatoes (one for each hand to keep warm) I sent them outside on their merry adventure.

Ainur donned her soft cashmere dress, the one she has been using of late. She loves dresses and especially puffy skirts but she won’t be seduced by prints (unless they are old school chintz in aged colours) and it was a miracle she chose a polka dotted underskirt in red. Imagine my shock when I saw her wearing this ensemble to go tramping through the woods!

I suggested her leather boots but she chose the red ones. I guess she was in a festive mood after all, going out foraging for winter greens to adorn the stairs and the mantel.

Magnus started sniffing all the underbrush covered by snow and getting his little nose peppered with cold snowflakes, which made Ainur giggle. These two entertain themselves in the most wholesome manner.

I guess Magnus was looking for something yummy to chew on and eventually he found some tasty bark and a few frozen leafy branches that filled up his tummy.

They were surprised by a flock of Cedar Waxwings making a ruckus on a nearby crabapple tree.

Ainur thought the crabapples would look smashing adorning her garland, but unfortunately she couldn’t get to them, even climbing atop Magnus, who offered his back as a gentleman.

They continued watching the birds, mesmerized by their pretty sight and decided to eat their little lunch then and there.

After their tummies were swollen with yummy food, they gave sighs of contentment. Rumbles were heard about silly tea when they could have had thick hot chocolate (foolish Fabs!) but there was no time to waste.

The sun started to go down and they knew it was time to clip a few greens to carry in the backpack basket that Poet lent them for such adventures. Poet is my muse doll and sometimes she plays nice. In all honesty I think she was trying to convince Magnus to like her better than Ainur…unfortunately another foolish errand by Poet.

Ainur and Magnus are inseparable.

Magnus was the one who spotted a replacement for the too-high-crabapples. He pointed to the nearby rose bushes and their wild hips hanging for dear life.

Ainur promptly started filling the bottom of the basket with tiny rose hips and she joked about how they matched her boots so well.

They came home with rosy cheeks and noses, blabbing about birds, crabapples, no hot chocolate and yummy snacks eaten outside.

Such is the life of a dollmaker sometimes. Hearing about many an adventure from the mouths of your very own dolls.

Miss Ainur and Magnus are looking for a home where they are free to roam and bring you baskets of foraged treasure. If you are keen in adopting them, please read on.

Ainur of House Staghorn is a 16” tall natural fiber art doll, made in my petite fig pattern. She is weighted with glass beads in her tummy, stuffed and sculpted in wool and her hair is made of camel and mohair fiber. Her head rotates in all directions, she can stand assisted and is very playful. Her eyes are embroidered and her freckles and eyebrows are hand painted.

She comes wearing the outfit you see her in (check previous post for more views of her undergarments). A cotton voile set of ‘combinations’, with lace and elastic, plus sewn in snaps at back. A bodice and skirt in 100% italian cashmere (upcycled fabric). The skirt is cartridge pleated, is lined with red polka dot underskirt trimmed in lace. She has long socks, red boots in cashmere with leather ties, a fake fur stole lined with cashmere and a fabulous headband (antlers are made of paper clay and have wire inside).

Since she is a member of a noble deer-loving family, she has a pet deer named Magnus. He is more than a pet though, is her best friend, confidante and partner in crime.

Magnus is made with mohair/alpaca fur and merino knit. He is stuffed very firmly with wool, has embroidered eyes, nose and spots and blushed cheeks.

Miss Ainur and Magnus have found a home ⭐️ Thank you to everyone that volunteered to be their family. Your lovely notes filled us with great pride and made us all feel very loved. More dolls next year!

If you are entering for them we thank you deeply. I have been making dolls for 15 years now and it’s a miracle you are all still here, supporting the work of my hands. And is only through that support that I am able to continue this path, making dolls, writing stories and sharing them with you all.

Ainur and Magnus are the last art toys I will have available for sale this year ⭐️. I hope they bring you light and cheerfulness at this time of the year.
