Wee Babies Spring 2021 Edition | Soft and Cuddly for your Warm Hands

Wee Babies Spring 2021 Edition | Soft and Cuddly for your Warm Hands

Yeah! We are making progress in the handmade doll offering for the year. As promised, I worked on a batch of little wee baby dolls for your Spring or Easter celebrations.

Now, this is a small family of ten: five lambs and five bunnies. They all measure around 8,5” tall and are stuffed softly with sweet-smelling wool. Their bodies are made with repurposed angora/wool textiles, cotton skin fabric and lots of tiny stitches here and there to shape them.

There are no small parts and nothing is removable, but they are still not recommended for small children, especially the young ones who put things in their mouths as they explore the world.

These are soft toys meant for gentle play. They can be handwashed and laid flat to dry. They are the perfect sort of friend to warm your hands on long hikes or walks around chilly afternoons. They cozy up with you to read books and they are connoisseurs of all sorts of tea blends.

My Wee Babies have been gracing the pages of this dollmaking journal since 2011, and now ten years later they are still bringing me much hope and so many of you have given one or two a home. Thank you!

I normally make them to suit the season they are born in, so lambs and bunnies in the Spring; foxes and bears in the early Fall and deers and reindeers in the Winter. I hunt thrift stores and online shops for repurposed sweaters to turn into these lovely beings, sometimes I pre-felt them and sometimes not. It depends on the mood.

If you want to try your hands at making a Wee Baby you can do so by using my published pattern “Wee Baby Bunny doll pattern”, which you can find amongst others in this store. The pattern contains a lot of information if you are a beginner dollmaker and is the most gentle and sweet introduction to the world of natural fiber art dolls, which are inspired in waldorf dolls.

The pattern also comes with the customary bunny ears, plus bear and kitten ears, so you can vary the woolly creature as you get better and better at making dolls.

This family of Wee Babies will be uploaded to my Bigcartel store this weekend and will become available for sale on Monday March 8th at Noon EST (Toronto time). Now, do take notice that I sell my dolls in a different store than where I sell my patterns.

I will upload all the Wee Babies over the weekend, so you can take a peek and see if one of them calls your name. That way you can be ready for them to hop in your shopping basket come Monday.

I hope this week treated you well. I felt very nourished and happy, with the odd moments of despair when the temperatures go on deep dives. But it seems that slowly but surely our Father Winter is receding his grip on the land. The snow is starting to melt, albeit at snail-pace.

Therefore it was the perfect time to work on these woolly creatures, who bring such cheerful bearings of Spring weather. Soft and fuzzy to tickle your nose and make you smile. It was right down perfect indeed.

Thank you for coming to read about them and if you wish to give one a good home, we thank you in advance for your support. I shall be back soon with some needle felting news and a new video for you. By the way, have you watched the one I made for Blu? You can check it out over here.

See you soon!
