They are finally ready to be most formally introduced to the world. So grab a comfy blanket and a nice drink because this is a long one.

Perhaps I am trying to prolong the inevitable: saying goodbye to Blu and her bear. I’ve said it many times, being a dollmaker is both a blessing and a curse. You get to create all these lovely wool children, and fortunately (or unfortunately) they all must leave to live their lives.

Blu is an only child. She is also an only grandchild. So she hasn’t been around many children and is mostly used to the presence of adults, which has given her some unnatural wisdom and a serious strut through life.

She attentively listens to their conversations and ponders the meaning of big words, such as: ravishing, quaver, interference and scabby. She likes that last word, it rolls in her tongue quite nicely.

Blu’s birthday was coming up and Poet and I were dreaming what to make for her. Poet suggested a ball gown. I told her that perhaps something a bit more practical, as ball gowns tend to get caugth in the brambles and Blu loves to play outside.

Then it was decided: a furry friend for the lonely child.

Now, just because she is an only child, that doesn’t make her lonely. But we felt that traveling alone, all wrapped up, to meet her new family, with no one to discuss fancy words with, was going to be too much for such a young, impressionable soul.

So we wrapped her present up and Poet gave it to her yesterday. Oh such a joy! Her eyes, believe it or not, got wider!

Miss Blu, the child who loves to listen to words was somehow at a loss for them. She just looked at us and hugged her bear and just didn’t know what to do with herself.

I have had that same feeling myself when I embroider a pair of eyes and my dolls start looking at me. Love at first sight.

After a few minutes of enraptured abandon, she decided to wear her birthday crown and get right down to play. As you must all know, dolls have huge responsibilities with their bears. They must (apparently) be taught all sorts of things, or so Blu tells us.

How to conduct a proper ambush.
Hunting for wild and wet honey, and how not get it in your whiskers.
How to spend a drowsy afternoon under the crabapple tree.
How to nap without snoring, so as not to shake the blanket fort with your snores.
How to sniff for the beginning of spring.

I told Blu that most of these things will come naturally to Mr Bear but she feels it is up to her to properly instruct her pupil. Though I do not know how she accumulated such vast knowledge I do hope it goes well for both of them.

Mr Bear is such a good natured bear that I am sure he will plunge with gusto into his lessons, proving a most excellent disciple. We should to wait to hear more news from their education.

Miss Blu is looking for a family, that can welcome her and Mr Bear with open arms. They are a set of natural dolls, and they will be sold lottery-style. More info further down but for now I want to tell you about Miss Blu.

Blu is a 15” tall art doll, made in my Mini Petite Fig style. This doll has the body proportions of a skinny 6 year old. Her body has been stuffed with clean, sweet smelling wool and her torso has been lightly weighted with glass beads to give her a little bit more of a fighting chance against gusty winds.

Her head moves, turns in all directions, up and down, to the sides, tilts, etc. She can sit very well and stands assisted. She has a beautiful neck, tiny ears and thumbs, cute knees and shapely feet.

Blu has embroidered eyes, painted freckles and blushed cheeks and lips with natural red beeswax. Her hair is made of mohair and can be played with and styled by gentle hands.

Mr Bear is made of lambswool, also stuffed with wool. He has a collar made with cotton lace and it is not removable. His arms are string jointed so he can move them up and down.

Blu wears a wool, hand-knitted long and dressy coat. The coat has 3/4 length sleeves and has a lot of ease, to wear with more layers than the ones she has right now. Coat closes with four wooden buttons and can be hand-washed and laid flat to dry.

She also has a pink scarf made of blush colour, cotton ribbing. Her scarf is very, very long so she can wrap it lots of times around her frosty cheeks.

As you have seen in many previous photos, she has a cotton tshirt with long sleeves and casmere collar, that closes at back with sewn-in snaps. Her overalls are made of wool flannel and are very warm. They have pockets and knee patches made of cashmere. The overalls have metal clasps and buttons, with cotton ribbing at the ankles to hug her little legs so she doesn’t get nasty winds on her shins.

She also wears underwear in a floral print, you can check it out here, as well as pink socks.

Her boots are made of lambswool and have real fur trim. They close on the side with a leather loop and wooden buttons. After making her three pairs which she deemed ‘unacceptable’, we are most tickled that she chose this design…finally.

Her birthday crown is made of floral linen and gingham, with a length of lace and wool pompoms, plus bits of embroidery.

The price for Blu and her bear is $1575 USD. Shipping quotes to the US and Canada are $65 USD insured. International will need a revised quote based on the type of mailing service you request. Blu is not a doll for a small child, as the nature of her size, her hair and the many small parts that are in her outfit can be troublesome for little hands to manouver as well as pose choking hazards. She is most suitable as an art toy for a child 12+ or an adult collector.
