Henrietta Swan, natural fiber art doll ready to meet her future
The day has come to part ways with my beautiful girl. I will miss her a lot, as she has kept me company for nearly a year. It was so great to have her with me, but as mothers we all know, we must let our children be free.
Over these many months together I’ve had the opportunity to know her really well. I can anticipate her moods and her predilections.
She has been a trusted associate in helping with suggestions on other doll adventures.
When she has seen frustration, on my part or on part of the other dolls, she has been a calming influence. Her eyes and expression really tone down whatever I am feeling.
I think she has that quality: a very calming and peaceful energy about her. I’ve mentioned before that last year was very hard for me and Henrietta truly helped.
So it is my hope that wherever she lands, she has the same effect: that she brings a calming energy and that you feel inspired to be gentle just by looking at her docile expression.
You can check these other two posts about Henrietta, if you would like to see other photos. Spring rain for Henrietta Swan and Making a Tea Cup Holster for her. Yes, she comes with all these clothes!
Henrietta Swan is a 16” tall, wool sculpture over an articulated armature. She moves, stands and sits. She is firmly needle felted in wool and sculpted in 100% cotton skin fabric.
Her arms can be moved in many directions, and due to the armature inside, she can keep them in whatever position. Same as her legs, torso and head.
Her eyes are embroidered with cotton floss and her hair is mohair weft, that can be styled, braided, etc. She really likes to use a curling iron!
She loves the snow and the fall. Those are her favourite seasons.
Something about rainy days too.
She loves introspection and quiet time. Time to herself, to gather herbs, to forage and be in nature.
Henrietta Swan’s first outfit is a medium weight long linen dress with hand knitted vintage lace at the hem, front bib, handmade cloth buttons, and opens/closes at back with sewn-in snaps.
She has floral jersey underwear and long cabled socks.
A linen and cotton petticoat goes under both her dresses.
Her leather boots have linen ties.
She also wears a hand knit alpaca/wool circular shawl, a leather belt and a tea cup holster with paper clay cup and saucer.
As her Fall outfit, she wears a cotton long dress with buffalo check in orange and white. With cashmere cuffs and collar, that closes at back with sewn-in snaps. The dress is decorated with a brass bow.
A velvet hooded cape compliments this outfit, with fox ears lined in angora.
Same angora material was used for her hair bow.
For her winter outfit she wears a pair of speckled virgin wool long pants (they go all the way to her chest) with knee patches. Her hand knit aran sweater was knitted with Donegal tweed wool, her angora scarf and her hand knit beret was made in wool.
All of Henrietta Swan’s outfits, from her dresses to her boots and hand knit items were made by yours truly.
Her beret pattern will be published shortly but unfortunately I never took notes on her jumper so that is a one-of-a-kind item, as Henrietta deserves.
If you would like to give Henrietta Swan a home, please enter your details in the form below.
She is a natural fiber art doll, recommended for humans 12+; she requires firm but gentle hands, to be posed and dressed. There are many small parts, so she is not a toy for a young child.
Her price is $1865 USD plus postage, to the US and Canada $65 USD, International will need a revised quote. She travels with insurance and tracking number from Canada.
Please only enter your details if you are personally interested in welcoming her, do not enter on behalf of someone else (unless it’s a gift of course!).
HENRIETTA SWAN HAS FOUND A HOME. Thank you so much for coming to read about her. xo
Miss Swan is made in my Mannikin style. I really, really love making these dolls but they take me so long that sometimes it goes very long in between making them.
Last year I found a new impetus for creating this doll style, so I do expect to make more of them this year.
Thank you for coming to see her, for wishing her good luck in finding a loving home or for offering the doors of yours to her.
I still can’t quite believe I made her and I am very happy to share her with you all. See you soon!
