Fitted, Lace-up Boots, a New Tutorial

Fitted, Lace-up Boots, a New Tutorial

Finally, another video tutorial for you to make a cosy pair of tall boots for your Waldorf-style or natural fiber art dolls. I am so pleased to introduce you to this doll shoemaking tutorial and hope you enjoy making warm booties for your natural dolls.

If you want to go straight to the pattern and video tutorial, head over here: Fitted Lace-up Boots.

As you probably know, my dolls love to tease me and are constantly asking me to update patterns: change the length, make them chunky, they want them wider, etc. When it comes to their clothing I always have to improvise, adapt and tailor my tried-and-tested patterns, to suit the particular doll personality.

It doesn’t help either that after 16 years of making dolls, my dolls’ feet and size changes constantly from year to year, so I can never even make “lasts” for leather shoes. I seriously have to work on that going forward. I want to simplify my next 16 years as a dollmaker!

It’s fair to say that over the years I have made many a pair of fitted lace-up boots. With the most amazing tweed, with linen canvas, with felted lambswool, melton wool, corduroy, cashmere, etc.

With velveteen soles, leather, double-layer felt, you name it. As the dolls inquire, so I provide. It has been the tune in the doll studio. Through their requests I have been on a learning sewing journey and now I can share some of that with you!

This tutorial is new to you, but I actually published it in 2021 via my Patreon Dressmaking tier. Back then my darling patrons requested a series to learn to make doll shoes so we explored many different styles and doll sizes. I have been very slowly republishing these tutorials to my Etsy shop since they have long ago been removed from Patreon. You can find the summer leather shoes and the felt Mary Janes from that series, as well as the Cutie Patootie Booties. Like I said, we explored different materials and techniques to make a plethora of shoes.

There are a few left that I might still publish in the Etsy store, so don’t lose hope. I want to show the many ways you can make them, adapt the pattern just a little bit to end up with a very looking style of boot. That way you please your doll’s proclivities 🥰

My latest doll actually wanted a pair of tall boots. We were going to go the long and windy road of making them in leather but after the pouring rains we’ve been having, we decided to make them warm and cosy in melton wool and felted merino. I shall show you very soon.

I hope you give them a go and if you do and want to share your makes with me, please show me by tagging your photo on Instagram with #fittedlaceupboots or send me an email. I would love to see what you make.

Here is the link to the store again: Fitted Lace-up Doll Boots.

Enjoy 🍂
