A New Doll Pattern in 2022: Introducing Little Penny

A New Doll Pattern in 2022: Introducing Little Penny

Yes, you heard that right. Today you can find the Little Penny Doll Pattern available for purchase in my online shop.

I think, if memory serves us well, that the last full-doll pattern I published was the Big Fig.

To be honest, I thought that would be the last of my doll patterns to publish, as I considered back then that you had enough to get you started on a sweet Waldorf-inspired or natural fiber art doll making-journey.

Beginning of course with the Wee Baby doll pattern, then continuing with Little Fig, Baby Fig and ending with Big Fig.

But I was wrong and so here we are, putting a remedy to that silly notion.

I actually created ‘Little Penny’ to teach my workshops back in 2018.

I intended not to publish this pattern at all, though many people have asked over the years, whether this pattern is available for purchase (they also ask a lot about the Petite Fig and the Mannikin, to which I of course state those are my personal patterns).

I taught my students how to roll a very firm doll head, how to sculpt it and add needle felting to shape it with the chubbiest of cheeks.

How to make gentle lips, a well-formed chin and how to embroider those gorgeous almond eyes, such a cute trait of fig&me dolls.

I also advised how to roll wool onto a tool (wool wand if you have one, but there are other suggestions as well stated in the pattern) to stuff the limbs of your doll.

If you lack a stuffing tool of this kind, you can try the traditional method of tearing long strips of wool and pushing them firmly, and evenly, in the doll limbs.

How to add weight to your doll using doll making glass beads and how to shape a torso and shoulders. For a list of all the materials I use in my doll making studio, you can visit this post which includes a handy list of worldwide online suppliers.

How to add knees and elbows and crochet a fluffy doll wig using doll making mohair yarn.

So as you can see, a lot of techniques and design details to help you further your knowledge of natural fiber art dolls or Waldorf-inspired dolls.

This was a pattern I thought would only be shared with my workshop students. Little did I know back then that just a short year after starting my teaching journey, I would end up abruptly stopping teaching in person due to the pandemic, which made travel and gatherings quite nightmarish to organize. So glad that madness is winding down.

Since 2018 my sweet Penny has sat in my doll studio, allowing me to create sewing and knitting patterns to fit her. Always the willing model.

This year I felt a little bad for her. I decided to share her with the world, so she can have many brothers and sisters who can help her feel less lonely.

Also, to help you with a new design and a few different techniques to acquire for your doll making chest of tips and tricks.

So it is with much love I share with you her doll making e-book.

You can find it in my STORE, as well as BUNDLED with the pattern to create the overalls and tshirt.

The Little Penny doll pattern is 84 pages long, with 266 detailed step-by-step photos on how to create the doll, including the body pattern.

It is published only in English for now (I will be working on more languages soon) and the pattern is set to print on Letter size paper.

There are, as with all my doll patterns, commercial restrictions. So do take a look at the pattern listings and any questions kindly let me know.

To celebrate this accomplishment, we are offering a 15% discount during the month of September 2022.

I hope you consider creating a Little Penny of your very own, and if you do please share her/him with me via Instagram or Facebook with this hashtag: #littlepennydollpattern
