Three Little Girls for Inez
These three little girls are the last custom dolls of 2024 and I have been literally dying to show them off to you. Unfortunately, the Christmas holidays put an end to my doll making shenanigans so I had to wait a little longer to share them with you.
Instead of starting with the eldest, I thought to first introduce you to the littlest one, Miss Emily. Isn’t she adorable? Emily and I spent many hours pouring over my stash of Suri Alpaca until she came upon just the texture and length she wanted. She hopes there are many little braids and updos in her dolly future.
Emily wanted a big furry bear hat to keep her ears cosy and I was more than happy to oblige. As you already know, I am a big sucker for my dolls and I do try as much as I can to please them.
Then we have the middle sister, Miss Lane. With her nutty brown eyes and her gorgeous hair. Her mom says she was very creative with her outfits and she definitely was the one with more ideas regarding her “tiara”. One day she wanted an angel halo, another day she wanted a long and pointy hat and then she finally decided on this pretty star headband!
I have to confess I was very excited to make it for her. I’ve made many knitted crowns and even mushroom-studded headbands but never a star! We tried a few different shapes, and we had some cookie ideas involving wire but finally we settled for this gold design made in soft and knit fuzzy fabric and a big velvet ribbon.
I think it compliments her pretty face just so perfectly.
Then we have the first born, Miss Hannah. She has hazel eyes you see? and every time I have the request to make a girl with hazel eyes my heart skips a beat. I feel it is so very hard to do it right that sometimes I choose one special embroidery thread and at other times I embroider with two colours. For this little Hannah, I chose the latter, and her eyes came out the most endearing shade of hazel goodness.
Regarding her head piece, I knew exactly what I wanted to make for her. A crown! but I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to make her a Christmas one and then she suggested I used velvet and things moved rather swiftly after that. We then added some lively golden beads and her eyes twinkled after that. So pleased with her whole look.
I think this elegantly braided velvet crown makes her look just like a good elder sister. I bet the younger ones hope to inherit it further down the lane.
As you can see, they all wear white dresses, or “coconut” as her mother calls this shade of white. They also all have sweet melton wool tall boots. Each dress is made with the same pattern, but each has a unique design made for each doll. Emily’s has lovely lace throughout and cashmere ribbing on the cuffs and neck.
Miss Lane’s dress has the same cuffs and neckline as her sister’s but instead of lace it has pin-tucks and vintage ric-rac. Her mom loves dainty details on doll clothing and I hope she giggles at all the love we put into these three little girls’ clothing.
And finally Miss Hannah’s dress has a gorgeous length of vintage lace I found at a stall of an antique dealer in one of our summer market adventures, with a mock button placket as well as an attached gauze linen apron.
All three girls have pretty cotton bloomers, with hand-rolled hems, wee elastic and pretty bows. But of course, those are not to show!
I have made all three ladies lovely capes but today was rather warm to dress them in full. I will leave them for her Mom to discover once she opens their box. Oh my! what a lovely bundle of joy she gets to open ❤️.
The girls do have one more outfit to show and for that we will head outside into the olive groves and the local vegetable patches.
To be continued.
