Wee Babies of a Portuguese Summer
Salutations!
I hope you are all enjoying yourselves, like us in the beautiful summer we seem to be having in Portugal. The other day I went out for a walk and what do you think I found under the cork oaks and the pines? These little toadstool babies 🍄.
If you happen to fall in love with one of them, you can check them all out in my store: Fig and Me Online Shop.
This will be our first time sending sweet little dolls all over the place from the amazing hills of Lusitania, so please be patient with the shipping quotes. As usual, I always combine shipping and reimburse overpayments in shipping charges.
At first of course I was surprised. I have never seen so many or so chubby ones all at the same time. But I stood very quiet, hidden behind a strawberry tree (madroño). I did not dare to make a sound, lest they scamper about and I didn’t get to take a few pics to document the event.
If you are wondering wether they are wearing acorn fanny packs, no…your eyes are not deceiving you. They are in fact wearing fanny packs, and I even saw one of them pull out a ball of cheese and homemade bread from his acorn pouch! What are the odds? Toadstool babies carrying lunch. Will wonders never cease?
In case you are unfamiliar with the Portuguese forest floor, let me explain the families of these babies. The red capped ones belong to the Amanita Muscaria family. A very ancestral and rather posh family, who love to wear ruffled collar and fancy hats. They pride themselves on appearing near castles and ancient forests.
The brown capped ones are King Boletes and obviously part of the nobility of the forest. Though noble they are a very humble mushroom family, but they do have a reputation for being quite fat and growing to epic proportions. Lucky for you these are just children for now, so they are still of manageable size. These ones love to sit by a cosy fire, cuddled in your hands.
If you want to check previous Wee Baby families, you can visit my online gallery. I bet you are going to fall in love with one or two! And if you are very pressed financially and would love to try your hand at making a similar doll, you can do so with my Wee Baby Bunny Doll Pattern.
I hope these little mushroom babies find a loving family and I am just so happy in my doll studio that I have already started making the next little batch: cute and furry baby foxes!
So that is it for now. I hope you are enjoying your summer (or Winter if you are in the Southern Hemisphere). I am throughly enjoying my walks and I am neck deep in dyeing adventures. Hopefully I will be able to share them with you soon.
See you next week 🍄.
