We’ve been telling ourselves all sorts of stories just to avoid taking Lily’s final photos and putting her up here, in the hopes of finding her a home. My heart was deeply enmeshed with her, her fiery hair and precious face, but I have come to the conclusion that if I want to finish the other dolls in the studio I better find her a family or I will just play with her all day!

Truth be told, once Ezra and Story departed, Miss Lily felt rather lonely in the doll studio. She had been wearing borrowed clothes for what seemed like an eternity (some dolls are impatient little beings) so we got to work on her little clothes.

I am happy to report that Miss Lily chose absolutely everything in her cute attire, from the corduroy print to be used for her dress, to the delicate laces and stripey socks.

We just couldn’t find buttons that she liked for the front of her dress placket. I offered little mother-of-pearl ones, a few glass ones, and even some sturdy wooden ones to no avail. She hunched her shoulders completely unimpressed with my offerings.

Then I had the brilliant idea to suggest the type of buttons we made for her sister Henrietta back in the day. It was love at first sight! Tiny handmade fabric buttons it was for this little girl.

Miss Rosehip then chose pantaloons instead of jersey underwear. This I suspect because she observed me, very carefully, when I sewed a pair for Story.

I think in her wee mind she decided that pretty dolls have pantaloons. I can’t argue with her, as soon as I look at her face I melt and say yes to everything.

I thought her dress was just a little short for the current season so I offered an underdress to cover more of her legs, she was happy at this suggestion. Once the stripey socks went on all we had to do was make her shoes, which proved a bit of a conundrum.

But we persevered!

Once fully dressed she asked me to go outside and inspect the rosebushes. At this time of the year they no longer have the fluffy roses we love, but instead are covered in juicy rose hips, waiting to be turned into tea.

We also took a little walk through the forest, so she could see the rowan berries. So many precious colours at this time of the year! she exclaimed.

We came back home and we were both delighted to have seen so much beauty. The tell-tale signs of Fall’s coming are starting to appear.

Miss Lily Rosehip has had a wonderful time in the studio and is now looking for a home. She is an avid reader and very careful laundry-folderer (that’s what she calls herself).

She likes to take daily walks, collect wild flower bouquets which she then dries and gives to friends. She is an avid reader and has recently discovered Astrid Lindgren so perhaps you can dive into that magical world by her side.

Lily Rosehip is a natural fiber art doll in my petite fig style. A very slender doll with an articulated and sculpted head.

She is 15” tall, stuffed with Canadian wool and weighed in her torso with small glass beads. Her hair is mohair weft, eyes are embroidered and freckles painted.

Lily wears a long-sleeve dress, with tiered skirt, collar and front placket. There is elastic on her sleeve cuffs so the wind stays out. Her underdress functions as nightgown as well and is made of cotton with lace. Her pantaloons are made of cotton voile and lace. Stripey socks and comfy lambswool shoes complete her jolly outfit.

Thank you so much for your kind comments as I was working on Miss Rosehip. I hope she has brightened your day as much as she has done so for me.

If you are interested in bringing her home and have entered your details in the form, we thank you deeply for your support. This October I will turn 15 years as a dollmaker and it is only because of the continued support of people like you.

Thank you for coming to read more about Miss Lily Rosehip. She will be waiting to find out her fate, sitting pretty in this chair, watching me work and telling me her little stories. See you on Monday!
